Most would agree most popular artists out there have something truly special to give to their fans. This goes above the typical attributes like raw talent, amazing songs, nice voice, or even a very marketable look, sound and image. There's something truly infectious at the core of these artists that simply makes us feel good when we listen to them. Whatever "it" is - they all seem to have "it".
Today I listened to the latest self titled CD from Los Angeles based duo Charley and Jesi released in 2011. Venturing to their website it is a very professional presentation that tells me these 2 are having allot of fun with this. From start to finish this CD from Charley Hinchcliffe and Jesi DiPalo is very pleasurable. It has a very College Rock quality to it and even dabbles in Punk, Rock-Folk to traditional Indie Rock. Any fans of any of these many musical styles will enjoy this latest release from these 2. It's clearly marketed for those who like the male and female fronted vocal tandem. The music has a mystique of say The Pixies, 100,000 Maniacs, or any modern couple dou band that I forgot to mention. Hinchliffe holds his own on guitar and vocals and Jesi just adds fuel to the fire with her marketable Americana look and infectious raspy voice. If she wasn't involved with Charley I would definately ask her out! These 2 are is clearly rolling with what they knows as performers. Favorite tracks include Track 1 (Sweet Darlin'), Track 2 (Wake Up) and Track 8 (Our Love). All pieces have an amazing warm feel and inviting vibe and feel. Within each one of these compositions these 2 find their musical soul and deliver. The other players are spot on and just makes the whole CD even more enjoyable. All in all one of the best CD's I've heard so far this year.
I see Charley and Jesi as a strong up and coming act. If the masses tap into this love potion in motion it could be huge. As time goes by he will no doubt refine and fine-tune their overall sound and musical personality. I am eager to hear what his next release will sound like. In close most famous artists out there have "it" I'm not so sure what it but Charley and Jesi definately have whatever "it" may be.
