Most would agree most popular artists out there have something truly special to give to their fans. This goes above the typical attributes like raw talent, amazing songs, nice voice, or even a very marketable look, sound and image. There's something truly infectious at the core of these artists that simply makes us feel good when we listen to them. Whatever "it" is - they all seem to have "it".
Today I spun to the debut self titled CD from New York husband and wife duo Wet Pinkey. Venturing to their website and reading the bio: I get the impression these 2 are on to something. From start to finish this CD from Wet Pinkey presents a very evil genius type of mystique. I can't compare them to anyone because their sound is so unique. It has an Alternative Rock-Punk like quality to it but one will also hear psychedelic ambience as well. It dabbles in what I would call mood-pych rock but without the over the top hard rock edge. Trust me when I say this band is trippy in a good way. Any fans of any of these musical styles will enjoy this latest release from Ian. It's clearly marketed for those who like a Japanese female singer mystique and a basement guitar edge. I get the impression Masashi and Chisatsu Ohtsu are just letting it hang out as performers in each one of these songs. In other words they hit the mark remarkably well by just being who they are. Favorite track is (Jangha). All songs possess amazing feel and the songwriting instincts go a bit deeper than the typical Independent Artist. Within each one of these songs these 2 remarkably find their Rock and Roll soul and delivers their best musical mojo. Wet Pinkey is clearly a force to be reckoned with as writers and performers.
In close Wet Pinkey's debut CD is a fascinating-trippy-psychedelic-feel good statement. Like I said most famous artists out there have 'it' I'm not so sure what it but Wet Pinkey have whatever 'it' is. It would be wise to keep a watchful eye on these 2 over the next few years.
