Seafood - When Do We Start Fighting...
I honestly had to listen to Seafood about 10 times before I could sit down and write a review. When Do We Start Fighting is Seafood’s sophomore album and when a band gets this good in two albums there is something to be suspect. This British band doesn’t really fit into the gamut of Brit bands that are coming over to North America right now. They are pop and rock, there is no denying that but there is not near as much moodiness here. Where Seafood is successful on this album is their dynamic ability to incorporate huge guitar swells and intimate guitar plucking onto the same album and make it seem ok. Seafood’s countrymen like Coldplay and Starsailor seem to only dwell on the darker side of things lyrically while Seafood has many happy and upliftin moments. I think it was this broad range of styles that Seafood uses that makes this album so appealing. They have more in common with the likes of Folk Implosion and Mercury Rev than other British bands. The production on When Do We Start Fighting is stellar as well. Seafood deliver a very impressive album.
