Also known as Kokomo Arnold, Gitfiddle Jim recorded under a variety of names and was a staple of the Chicago blues scene in the mid and late thirties. He had an intense and powerful style of playing the slide guitar and his sharp vocals, usually delivered in short bursts very quickly, made for a unique sound. This was his first recording, before he moved to Chicago. "Paddlin' Blues" (also known as "Paddlin' Madeleine Blues") is probably the better of the songs and relies heavily on alliteration and assonance for its effect, with the vocals providing a lot of the rhythm and largely dictating the tempo of the song. I told you it was unusual.
