"Sleepyhead" is probably the best example you will ever hear of a song which is so completely obscure that I doubt if any music fans under thirty will have even heard of it. Originally released on a free compilation tape known as "Uncle Arthur's Pop Parlour", it was later reissued as a split single with The Grooveyard's "Summer" on the reverse, even the label isn't written on the sleeve or insert. And after that, no more was heard of the band or the single.
But it is "Sleepyhead" which really draws the attention. This is as close as you are going to get to pure jangle pop pleasure. Originating in Sussex, the band formed part of a small select scene of jangle pop bands who all had the potential, but never got the breaks. These days, the only way you are ever going to get to hear glorious stuff like this is to scrabble around YouTube for a few hours. It will be time not wasted I can assure you.
