I really shouldn't like this, but I do. Everyone has a guilty pleasure and this is mine. I admit it. It's okay to admit it. Its not like admitting to some great crime like groping little girls, or admitting some socially embarrassing character flaw, like an Arkansas redneck admitting he is an atheist. Barry Manilow may be a modern day version of a lounge singer, but there are millions of women who adore his music. He is sometimes regarded as the epitome of the sort of smooth, laid back, bland, saccharine music which offends no one except people like me because I find its inoffensiveness offensive. Just check out the awful B-Side which brings the overall rating down.
No, I am not called Mandy, nor did I ever go out with anyone of that name (which might usually explain such a possession). Somehow, I just found the lyric appealing. Is that so wrong? Music appreciation is subjective and therefore, though I cannot usually stand the sort of stuff Barry Manilow puts out, let's give credit where credit is due, shall we. This has a good lyric, a good melody and is easy to listen to. There are times when that is enough.
