Everyone knows this track. It was a huge hit worldwide and got there for the simple reason that the melody and the refrain lodged in your head and you couldn't get it out. The band were from Australia and they emphasised their Australian-ness with references to Vegemite and other Australian cultural icons. At the time it probably did more than any other song to put Australian music on the map, at least as far as the US and UK went. Even now, that opening drum roll kicks in and the flute begins to whistle. You find your feet tap and you start singing along. Guess that's what makes a great pop song - the ability to drill into your head and stay there, like a pleasant form of irritation. It is perhaps a pity therefore that the band have been found guilty of plagiarism and forced to pay damages for taking that flute line off a familiar Australian folk song.
