On listening to this no one could possibly mistake this for anything other then German. Kraftwerk have built a career on producing cold and clinical synthesiser music to emphasise the humanity of mankind and its achievements, and where better to start than with perhaps Germany's greatest contribution to industrial logistics - the motorway. Clever use of synthesisers provides a constant rhythm of Doppler-effect vehicles cruising down the autobahn, while the simplicity of the lyrics and the stark manner of their delivery stress the contrast between the human and the technical. I have the long, extended version as a download which brings with it the full impact of the band's intentions which may not always be clear with the abbreviated version released as a single.
