Although this is Skip James cover of an even earlier song called "I'm So Tired", Skip James really makes this his own. If you are going to do a cover, then make sure you have something distinctive about it. James certainly managed to achieve this here. His strange, rather high-pitched vocal style may take some getting used to in comparison with say, Charlie Patton's gruff voice, but there can be no doubt as to the quality of the music. This probably marks the acme of the finger-picking style of guitar playing which proved such a huge influence on later rockers and it should come as no surprise that Cream did a version of this. If you want to get into the best that delta blues has to offer, then you couldn't do better than start with this.
