This compilation from Putumayo features artists just as the title suggests - South African Legends. This compilation does a great job in showing the diversity of music that the country is graced with. Even featured is the reggae superstar Lucky Dube (I had no idea that Reggae was so popular in S.A.). Traditional African fare like the voices that Paul Simon brought to the world, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, as well as the star Miriam Makeba (the first African to have a pop hit in the US with "Pata Pata"). On the Jazz side you can listen to West Nkosi and Hugh Masekela. If you are new to South African talent be sure to pick this up (a nice change from the barrage of Cuban releases as of late). This is the kind of compilation Putumayo does so well - pulling such a diverse collection into one complete album.
