You may or may not recognize Erik Sanko as the bassist for the influential Lounge Lizards. You might also recognize his name from the underground pop group, Skeleton Key. Regardless, Erik has built up a desire to record a solo album and never before been given the opportunity. Don’t worry about Erik becoming a straight shooter because this is as wacky a project as he has been involved with previously. The only thing that might have really changed is the volume. Sanko is content with a quiet solo album that is very creative although a little quirky at times. Just listen to the opening track “While You Were Out which has him solemnly singing to a gentle guitar line. Erik really reminds me of E from the Eels with his wistful and longing voice. The instrumentation is quite frequently off key but it all adds to the character of the album. Anyone who enjoyed Erik’s work with Skeleton Key will obviously enjoy Past Imperfect and any Eels fans wouldn’t harm themselves by listening to this album either. This is a great album for those times when you are all alone.
