As punk began to disintegrate at the end of the seventies, there emerged from the wreckage a number of different styles of music, genres broadly lumped together under the tag new wave. Of these, two went onto achieve mainstream success, namely the new romantics and the synth-pop styles; another, post punk, was critically acclaimed but generally overlooked. Most of the other genres died a death. One such genre was garage-punk. The Clapham South Escalators were one among a number of garage-punk bands active at the time (and later morphed into the Meteors). This three track single was released on their own Upright label. "Leave Me Alone" was a decent enough, almost rockabilly track, with the right style of vocals and guitar. But it was never going anywhere.
