After their brief departure from what fans were used to in The Sound of Water, Sarah Cracknell and her crew are back with what we have come to know and love. Sarah’s voice is sounding more beautiful than ever and they have moved away from the experiments with Germans To Rococo Rot and famed producer Sean O’Hagen from their last album. Finisterre reaches back to the pure pop days of Foxbase Alpha but they do manage to keep a bit of the electronica tidbits they had gathered along the way. There are nice quiet pop ditties like “Stop and Think It Over but they get right back into the dance culture with the next track “Shower Scene. Finisterre translates to End of the World but listen to this incarnation of Saint Etienne it would be hard to believe. It sounds very pleasant and positive. Their paste style of pop is sounding even more current even though they haven’t changed all that much over the years. Time is catching up to Sarah, Bob, and Pete and their day in the spotlight may yet come.
