Canadian outfit the Nex'd managed to release this sole single during their short career. An up-tempo post-punk number with moody chords in the intro which could have been lifted straight out of the Alex Lifeson book of guitar tabs, "Surreal " is another in the litany of long-lost classics which faded into obscurity almost as soon as it was released. Indeed, this single was the only thing, as far as I am aware, that they ever put out. Yet even after a quarter of a century or more, this song still has a freshness to it which belies its age. The lyrics are the only let down as they are occasionally a bit silly, but we can overlook that and concentrate instead on the tight guitar sound and driving rhythm.
