John Lee Hooker's debut single was this classic from the late forties. Hooker had been around for many years already when he was finally signed up to Modern Records and cut this single. It provided a template for a distinctive take on the blues of the Delta which was to become Hooker's trademark style down the years and was also to prove incredibly influential on both blues artists and rockers who followed. And the sentiments it expressed - let the boy boogie - are surely as relevant today as they ever have been to anyone whose parents have said no. Subsequent to its release the song has been covered many times and retitled but in truth no one ever did it better than this.
