The Hollies were a fine group who never achieved the lasting fame that some of their contemporaries managed. This song is one of their finest tracks largely because of the sentiments expressed by it. It is all about brotherhood and standing by a person who may be in distress or require help. The slightly mournful harmonica adds a sense of gravitas to the song without making it needlessly mournful or maudlin.
Unfortunately, advertising agencies have found this track and it has begun to be used as a marketing jingle for a variety of products from banking to roadside assistance. While the royalties may aid the bank balances of the performers and songwriters, there remains a danger that the track will become seriously overplayed.
