Jangle pop never really got the acclaim it deserved. There were numerous bands who sprung up and recorded, only to disappear after a very short space of time. But some of the songs they have left behind are superb. Brighton's the Wallflowers are one such band and "Blushing Girl, Nervous Smile" is their finest musical moment. A delicate jangle pop song which is surely biographical, it was clearly aimed at the mainstream (being produced by Pete Hammond) and yet for some reason never quite made it. Ignore that Last FM have got them confused with an American band from Los Angeles, this is most definitely some of the finest British eighties pop you will hear. It is high time some of these bands were given some, albeit belated, recognition.
