Joe Jackson built his career writing catchy, but thoughtful songs about relationships. Often, the relationship being described is not what, for want of a better term, I will call conventional. Jackson was always the master at providing a different twist to his songs. "It's Different for Girls" is typical of that.
This single has what you would regard as the usual positions of the sexes reversed - it is the woman who won't commit and just wants sex instead of a relationship. The rather pathetic whining from the man in response is interesting to say the least and sounds completely different to the way the same words, if said by a women, would come across. But then that is the point. Ignore the usual nonsense about Jackson's sexuality here. Once you get to grips with the concept of role reversal, this is and remains a damn good track from Joe Jackson's repertoire. The man deserved much more recognition in his time and ought to be regarded as one of the greats.
