Argueably Big Bill Broonzy is one of the most important figures in blues. The reason for this statement is that he had such a huge array of songs that he would play and the musicianship that he demonstrated was literally second to none. Also the man was one of the most recorded blues musician ever. Although this disc focuses on the end of Broonzy's career it is a fine demonstration of what the man had acheived. He suffered from throat cancer and he knew that his time was drawing to an end so every recording session he played like it was going to be his last. He finally gave in to the cancer on August 15, 1958. This compilation collects such classics as "Hey, Hey Baby" which was recorded by Eric Clapton as well as "Trouble in Mind," "Key to the Highway," "Digging My Potatoes" and a great version of "This Train (Bound For Glory)" performed live with Pete Seeger. The remastering done on this release is fantastic too; it wouldn't sound better if recorded today.
