Still a good song after all these years, "A Whiter Shade of Pale" ranks as one of the iconic moments of sixties music, despite the familiarity. On a completely different level to what was being put out elsewhere at the time, it is so familiar and so unique that many people can remember whole passages of the lyrics with magnificent ease. Others have wasted years trying to decipher the words, but the imagery still eludes them. Truth is, the words don't mean anything more than a random collection of images. And I don't care if that keyboard line is borrowed from Bach's "Air on a G String", it's still a bloody good song.
