RecommendPutumayo has done a great job on documenting the gypsy music with their Gypsy Caravan CD. The folks have pulled some very rare and treasured tracks that have never been released outside of their native country. Included are Gypsy's from Hungary, France, Serbia, Macedonia, Spain and an ensemble that is based in Canada with roots in the Ukraine and Moldova. This music has roots of over 1000 years ago and to think that it is still being played and enjoyed is miraculous. And as always the liner notes are in depth so one can appreciate the background of this ancient music and a nice history of Gypsys in general.
