This album, simply put, hasn't left my CD player for any substantial amount of time since I got it. Writing reviews in such a tiny box is hard for me, so I won't go through song by song, and it's hard for me to nail down highlights in a record that I love front to back, so here are my faves:
The first song, Provided by the Management (For Your Protection), sort of lays out a road map for what's to come, though it's not at all like the album is repetitive. But you get a good idea of the band's incredible musical abilities with their respective instruments, and maybe what they were listening to when they wrote the song.
Track two, Pretty People, has my second-favorite lyrical section on the record. It makes my heart swell to hear it, and I feel inspired. That feels insufficient, but it will have to do.
The title track, Y.C.D.Y., has been on repeat in my head since it was only a download before the album came out. At the risk of overselling it, this is one of the best songs I have ever heard in my life. I live and breathe music, and this song is fresh air. Seeing the Skulls perform this live made me shudder at the enormity of it.
I should end the review there, since I already sound like a sycophant, but I at least have to go back and reference what my FIRST favorite lyric on the record is: the first line of track 7, Flipping Pages. Just awesome.
I have much more to say about this album, but every song needs its own review. In short, buy the CD and see if it doesn't make your naughty parts tingle.
