Being the daughter of one of the most famous and best-loved of all singers has got to be a weighty cross to bear. It is one which would wear down pretty much anyone. Wherever you go and whatever you do, people will just say that any success you get is just reflected light from your famous parent. No matter how good you may be, you are always likely to be compared unfavourably to your parent.
Whether Nancy Sinatra ever had the potential to emerge from under the shadow of her father will be a story to be analysed by others. But this song was her biggest hit. A kind of jazzed up blue-eyed soul from the daughter of Ole Blue Eyes himself it was as different from the elder Sinatra's work as it was reasonable to expect. Nancy did not have the greatest of voices, but it was distinctive, and this song brought out that distinctiveness to the full. And was it ever a catchy little number, almost as much for the distinctive arpeggios of the bass line as for the lyrics themselves.
