I have yet to see the movie Genghis Blues but it is on my list of must see flicks. It is the story of Paul Pena, a blind Creole-American blues singer who made a living of off royalties from his song "Jet Airliner" (as perfomed by Steve Miller). He heard a radio program with the intriguing vocal styles of Tuvian throat singing and ended up teaching himself how to do the unique two-or-more note at a time singing. He was then invited to Tuva to partake in a national singing contest and won his division as well as the Audience Favorite award. This album is a great example of two very unique genres crossing paths and generating a new style never done before. He is joined by his Tuvan mentor and friend Kongar-ol Ondar. The album more or less goes in the structure of blues then tuvan but both the styles incorporate the other. The video and DVD are available on New Video http://www.newvideo.com.
