I was just listening to this classic Replacements album and felt that it deserved some space on MusicEmissions.com. Tim was supposed to be the album to kick-start the Replacements career, complete with a major label deal on Sire records. Somehow, probably a blessing in disguise, The Replacements never saw the fame and fortune that they so rightfully deserved. Their sound was a little cleaned up from their indie treat, Let It Be, but they still had the free-spirited sound that made the Replacements what they would be. Somehow, no matter how much production they received they always sounded like the worlds best garage band. Bob Stintson's guitar is the highlight of many a track with his reckless style, later revealed to have a major drinking problem that he would eventually die from. The main reason to venture into any Replacements territory is for Paul Westerberg's brilliant lyrics and vocals. Some of the highlights include "Waitress in the Sky", "Bastards of Young", "Left of the Dial" and a track I have always thought would be a great depressing and bittersweet soundtrack song, "Here Comes a Regular". Although this album received quite a bit of college radio play it never hit the charts. It belongs in every alt-record collection (along with every other Replacements album).
