This four track EP was shared with the band Shine. The Bardots had two songs on the A side and Shine had two on the AA side. To be honest, I have never heard of Shine apart from this. Their songs are OK but with nothing to set them apart from the rest of the crowd.
Of the two songs by the Bardots, "Summerhouse" is a standard sort of jangle pop. But what really makes this worth having is the title track. "Sad Anne" is one of those songs which drills itself right into your head, stays there and is never going to get out. At the same time melancholy and uplifting, this is one of the few songs which I can suddenly recall with almost instant clarity when the melody pops into my head.
The Bardots hailed from Norwich and still occasionally tour. They produced two LPs and half a dozen or so singles but they made no impression on the music scene outside of the college circuit. These days, you will have trouble tracking down anything by the band either on vinyl or CD. "Sad Anne" was released on a 12 inch vinyl on an obscure label. I have never seen another copy.
