This new band is the finding of producer extraordinaire, Steve Lilywhite, and is the first album to come out on his new imprint Gobstopper Records. Would you expect anything less from Steve than one of the hottest debuts to drop this year? Rearview Mirror is the brother team of Adam and Jason Ptacek, along with guitarist Matt Olson, and drummer T.J. Kammer. The band makes use of a Tool type of emotion but brings it down a notch so it can be consumed by the general public (although Tool seems to be heading more in that direction). The guitars that Olson provide are very intense and quite different from some of the other heavier bands out there today. Listening to this album multiple times is the only way to gain an appreciation for it. Songs are soaring but stay grounded with Lilywhite’s great production work. Before you make up your mind, listen to the entire album because a lot of the better tracks are on the second half. My favorite track is “Blade�. People who like heavy radio rock should eat this up. The only thing that will be missing is the major label dollars to push them out there.
