This is a rather unremarkable track when you consider what U2 went on to become. At the time this came out, the music press were giving them the Arctic Monkeys treatment and lauding them as the next greatest thing to hit the British music scene. That they were Irish did not seem to matter. The New Musical Express, the self-appointed arbiter of all that is supposedly hip in the UK music scene, even invented a completely new genre to distinguish them from the punks and the rest of the new wave, the "Just Good Songwriter" Genre. As with almost everything the NME did, it was all pretentious hype in the end. Yet U2 at this point were clearly heavily influenced by a number of post punk bands. However, NMEs lauding of U2 was something of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Still, it is interesting to listen as to what constitutes the roots of U2.
