Quarashi is turning into “the band to watch in 2002� with their “Stick ‘em Up� track being #1 most added track at alternative radio and #2 most added at active rock. Quarashi is making the North American invasion from Iceland with their hip-hop rock styling that fuses heavy industrial electronica and turntablism making something new and exciting. Hossi Olafson, the bands vocalist, stated himself that the band was “As if Chemical Brothers and the Prodigy rumbled with Cypress Hill and Public Enemy�. It’s a close description but it doesn’t throw in some of the rock sensibilities that the band has. Jinx is not Quarashi’s first album. They have released 2 previous albums in Iceland that both went gold in their native country. Jinx is the first album for Quarashi to release in North America and by the looks of things, they are about to go gold here too. Quarashi can be overwhelming at times with their triple rapper style but there is always melody and accessibility to be had. With tracks as sonically heavy as “Copycat� it won’t be hard to imagine fans of Rage Against the Machine going for this Icelandic band. Quarushi has provided a strong album to break into the North American market.
