Before New Order lost it in the mid eighties and drifted towards the techno-pop music which ultimately made them famous, they put out a number of really good, atmospheric post-punk tracks. Excellent works, such as "Temptation", usually came out as an extended piece on a 12 inch vinyl. At the end of the day, this, along with others of its era, will stand testament to how good New Order could have been. This mixes pop with post punk with hints of techno and seems to highlight the sort of musical forces at work in the band at the time. It was only when those forces settled down that the band became sterile and uninteresting.
