All 6's and 7's represents a balance rarely seen in rap today. The tracks flow together tightly and are broken up nicely by the occasional well placed skit, usually introducing the next song. "We Miss You Man Man" is the best example, showing a personal side of Tech, and then kicking into a heartfelt ode to the power of music "I Love Music". Going from lighthearted to dark and twisted, "Am I a Psycho" is pure bliss to fans of the heavier side of rap. B.o.B. delivers a surprising melancholy yet rapid verse we've never heard from him before. Perhaps the strongest track on the album, and my personal favorite, is "Worldwide Choppers". Featuring a mind-blowing 9 artists, including Tech N9ne, this is essentially a competition to see who can throw down the quickest verse with the most dynamic lyrics. Yelawolf is a surprising standout with his amusing southern accent. He may be difficult to understand sometimes, but without a doubt he showcases his talent. Busta Rhymes is nothing short of jaw dropping with his stutter step rhyming style and his booming voice clashing with the thunderous bass of the track. The song is a perfect example of just how dynamic the album is.
While there is no question that Tech N9ne is one of the fastest rappers of this generation, sometimes it detracts from the impact of a song. "Delusional" is a great change of pace, a slow yet tricky beat accentuates Nikkiya's backing vocals. But Tech's spitfire rhyming is so epic I found myself completely lost in his rhyming instead of the atmosphere that was just built up. Of course it is still a good song and my complaint only strengthens the argument of just how good Tech N9ne's skills are.
As far as the 2000's have been concerned, I've had my reservations about rap, with Eminem and few others actually holding my interest and respect long enough to make an impact. I wish that I would have been introduced to Tech N9ne a long time ago, but I've found him now and the timing couldn't have been better. All 6's and 7's easily sits at the top in my ever changing list of top albums of the year and I don't see any reason why this album won't make Technicians out of us all.
