In only three albums Placebo has rendered themselves to be quite a powerhouse out of England. Black Market Music marks their third album and second on Virgin. Placebo are a band that manage to play loud aggressive music and are still able to add an accessible side to their sound. It has a lot to do with Brian Molko’s very unique vocals. He is a moody soul with a bit of a whiny voice but it suits the moody music that Placebo play. I also find it amazing that Placebo is only a three piece. At times the band can sound scarce and wistful but other times the music gets so overwhelming that it sounds like it should be a full orchestra. The band still has a dark overtone to it but they have come a long way since even the hit single “Pure Morning. Placebo is maturing nicely as is shown on tracks like “Passive Aggressive which is somewhat of an epic style song. Black Market Music also features a bonus track of the song they did with David Bowie entitled “Without you I’m nothing. Molko and Bowie’s voice go amazingly well together. The chugging “Slave To The Wage is one of the many highlights found on here. This is undoubtedly the best Placebo album to date.

This album is the way feelings sound. The music can be fast, deep and keep you on your feet and awaken you physically - but emotionally, the sound of Brian's voice is so daunting, its addictive.

The tormenting, heartfelt feeling when listening to the chorus in Passive Aggressive- (Every time I rise I see you falling..Can you find me space inside your bleeding heart?) not only compliments the great build up of instrument use but truly is like having an anchor dragged across your chest, your lungs malfunctioning from how breathtaking it is with your mind still racing with a thousand thoughts.. and afterwards still being able to smile to the beauty of what Placebo creates.
