What else it left to be said for one of the most influential groups of the late 80’s? The Pixies came to usher in a new sound that would become known as alternative music. Their mix of surf and punk was a welcome relief to many as they started blazing their way up the college charts. This Pixies album was recorded in 1987 at the Fort Apache Studios in Boston. There were originally 17 songs recorded and they would affectionately be called the Purple Tape. Eight songs from this recording session surfaced as the Pixies debut album, Come On Pilgrim. With the release of Pixies, all 17 tracks are now widely available. Some tracks Pixies fans will recognize like the original take of “Here Comes Your Man� and “Subbaculta�, which appeared on Doolittle and Trompe Le Monde respectively. Most of the other tracks were re-recorded for other albums except for “Rock A My Soul� and “In Heaven�. “Build High� appeared again as a B-side for the single “Planet of Sound�. The sound on Pixies is raw and untarnished with studio trickery. You can really see the groups brilliance existed upon formation. This album completes most Pixies collections.
