The Corn Dollies were one of the plethora of bands which came onto the scene in the mid-eighties in the wake of the Smiths' success and who, to a greater or lesser degree, mimicked their sound. Such a tactic for a band is rarely successful in itself and the Corn Dollies soon faded into obscurity. Yet there was occasionally a different edge to the jangle pop which the Corn Dollies offered, and "Forever Steven" was the best song of an otherwise run of the mill catalogue of songs. Wistful and slightly melancholy, it contains all the elements which make a good piece of jangle pop crisp vocals, clean twangy guitars, and understated bass and drum section. A pity then that the band could not build on that.
