I think the first time I really heard this song was in the movie Snatch. Worked brilliantly and turned me onto a good song.

"Golden Brown" was something of a surprise when it was issued. It simply did not sound like a punk band. What had happened to the Stranglers? Was that a harpsichord I heard? Yes, this was certainly different from the Stranglers' normal output, but don't forget the band had matured and mellowed with the passing of the years. They had slowly been moving away from a guitar-driven format towards a keyboard led one. This was the ultimate conclusion of that move.
Like many, I hated it when I first heard it. But, like everyone else I have matured and mellowed over the years. This may not be the best track the Stranglers ever released but it is a long way from being the worst. It is actually quite enjoyable.
