Ooh, I like clever puns. "Californication" is the inevitable clever pun. If you are, you are going to get shafted. End of story. David Duchovny may star in a TV series with the same name but the similarity ends there.
The trouble with the Red Hot Chili Peppers is one of identity. They want to be rebellious but have rather forgotten how to do it. Whatever they may have been in their early days, they are not now. This can easily be seen in the way they play their music. Basically, every Red Hot Chili Peppers song I have ever heard sounds pretty much the same as all the rest. The tempo may change, the key may change, the melody may change, but at the end it is pretty much all the same stuff. The result is that, after a while, you kind of forget which song it is youre listening to. Its only when you get a clever pun along, as in this case, that you finally realise which song it is.
This is the best song from the band. Its never going to be anywhere near my all-time favourite but at least I know which one it is when it comes on.
