Guru has been one of those people that push hip hop into territories where it's never been before. Both with his Jazzamatazz project and his band Gang Starr releases he has been pushing the boundaries and putting out releases that are so far ahead of their time that only now are the being fully appreciated. Even though this edition of Jazzmatazz is a little more Soul than Jazz it's still a killer example of how hip hop can encompass almost any genre. I could go on about Guru for ages but let me share with you the fine artists that agreed to join him on this album. If you don't run out and buy the album when I'm done... Macy Gray, Erykah Badu, The Roots, Amel Larrieux, Kelis, Isaac Hayes, Les Nubians, and Herbie Hancock just border on the fine featured artists. A bit heavy on the female vocalists but that is this reviewers only complaint. I would have renamed this one Soulmatazz or R&Bmatazz. Any way you look at it this album is a fine addition to Guru's catalog.
