I never really got into Guns 'N' Roses. Generally speaking, I don't think I missed much either. They seemed to be intent on being the Kiss of their generation, with the excepting factor being that they could actually play their instruments with some degree of ability. But most of the time, it just seemed to me to be a lot of hype designed to stir up some teenage controversy, piss off parents, and thereby generate some healthy sales for the record company.
But if there has to be an exception, this is it. That guitar intro leads into a great melodic rock single. Even Axl's vocals don't sound as whiny and as irritating as I usually find them to be. This was their high point - their one moment of doing something good as opposed to doing something profitable. That it was profitable anyway is incidental.
