This was different insofar as it was largely the work of drummer Topper Headon instead of the usual Jones/Strummer partnership. The melody was a strong one, and the double piano-guitar lead made it somewhat different from their usual, former, rocking style,. In truth I had rather parted company with the Clash by now, and it was only the occasional song, like this one, which brought them back into my field of vision. The only downside to the song is the rather strangled vocal performance put in by Joe Strummer. Yet this remains one of the Clash's better outputs in the eighties. I have no doubt that, post-911, this has become something of an unpopular choice among certain sections of the American radio networks. But that says more about them than the song.
