African Travels is the latest installment of Six Degrees Travel Series. It is a groovy look at some of today’s hottest African fusion happening and how African beats can be incorporated into modern music. It is not hard to imagine the music of Africa being incorporated onto the dance-floor with its inherited beats and rhythms. If you have ever heard what brother man Fela Kuti or his son Femi Kuti could do with African rhythms incorporated into jazz you understand the power of African music. Imagine some of the Earth’s best producers taking these and subtly adding even more groove to them. You get teams like Masters at Work, Bob Holroyd, Gus Gus, and Future Loop Foundation together reworking already funky as hell tracks. Their touches are not all that evident because and only because they leave so much of the original track as the base rhythm. Bottom line: if you want to shake your ass then put on African Travels. It’s groovier than a pack of Reese’s Pieces.
