Putumayo takes you on a spiritual and meditative journey through the continent of Africa. African Odyssey reveals many artists who’s music has never been heard outside of their borders as well as some artists who are just starting out on the world scene. You will find Putumayo artists such as Habib Koite (one of my favorite African musicians) as well as Oliver Mtukudzi. Musicians are so varied in the Africa region that it is very refreshing to hear this diversity collected on one compilation. Diversity is exactly what you get with eight African countries represented here. The one thing that all the songs have in common is the cool laid-back feel that they possess. It shows that an African’s way of life is a lot more relaxed than most regions in our vast world. Putumayo provides a very thorough look into the African musical realm and bring artists who would normally not be heard outside of their country a chance at being recognized globally.
