What is the Art of Listening? According to the sample that Russian DJ Vadim uses at the beginning of this album, you have to be high in order to listen intently. Grass is good for creativity. Buy him another bag of the stuff because this is a brilliant album. The starts out with one of the strongest tracks on the album, “Till Suns In Your Eye� featuring Motion Man. The best thing about Vadim is his insistence on using underground hip hop MC’s. The only one I recognize on the entire album is Gift of Gab (“Combustible�) but listening to these MC’s is a real treat. There is some awesome vocal work going here. Check out the Yarah Bravo on her tracks “She Who Is Tested� and “The Pacifist�; quirky but it works. DJ Vadim lays down some very heavy tracks for these MC’s making it natural for them to sound great. Freshness is abundant all over the album. He proves his worldliness on the French track “L’art d’Ecouter� featuring TTC. I think he might have even added more to this if he had used a Russian MC at some point throughout the album. Vadim is world class though and The Art of Listening proves that he is on top of the underground scene.
