When an album hits you so hard when you’re totally unsuspecting, it’s a beautiful feeling. The new Dilated Peoples is one of those albums that caught me by surprise. If you remember their amazing debut Platform then you may be ready for what comes next. If you failed to pick up on the Platform then you have no idea what you are up for. Dilated Peoples are one of the strongest hip-hop acts to hit the streets this side of Jurassic 5. Their DJ is the star of the show. DJ Babu kicks it like no other hip-hop DJ has before him. The vinyl that he spins is choice and the way he mixes is top-notch. Don’t fret because Evidence and Iriscience are hot here too. The rhymes that they are pulling out of their hats are amazing. The two play off of each other like nobodies business. The also bring in some outsiders like DJ Premier, ?uestlove, Juju, Black Thought, Tha Liks, and Da Beatminerz. With all this help they manage a very diverse and influential piece of hip-hop history, incorporating jazzy beats and funky rhymes. This is most definitely one of the strongest hip-hop albums of the year.
