Phil Crumar is probably one of the most unexpected musical artists that you would expect. His first job was picking up trash along the side of a parkway in Washington D.C.. While working he decided that he was either going to be a musician or a marine biologist. So in order to fund his biology education he decided to make music. Crumar got started in music by playing the drums and then branched out to the bass and guitar. He started making 4-track demos and his friends encouraged him to make songs out of his muddled 4-track recordings. Before he knew it he had a contract with Asphodel. On As It Goes, Phil plays everything except for scratches, which are provided by friend and labelmate Rob Swift and DJ Marz. Expect to hear goofy white-boy raps on this EP but the big thing Crumar drops here is killer rhythms. In fact “Chucklehut (the last track) is entirely a groovy instrumental. That’s what it’s all about, rhythm. When the four short tracks are over you are left wanting more. This will tide friends and fans over until his full-length is complete.
