I bought this because I believed it would be a good solid post punk track having heard a snippet on the radio. That snippet sounded like some promising guitar-led music, and a few interesting lyrics thrown in. Just the sort of thing I would go for. So I went out and bought it. This impression was strengthened by the New Musical Express describing the Fixx as 1982's Fischer-Z.
The result was exceptionally disappointing. The lyrics are trite and the guitars are nothing special, and certainly not on a par with any of the post punk music I was listening to at the time. I was wrong about this. It is pop new romantics and does nothing for me. The bad hair on the cover frankly should have given it away. But I failed to spot the warning signs.
