Dan The Automator gets back to his roots with this little mixtape session. Dan Nakamura has been pumping out the albums one after the other the last little while and the amazing thing is none of them suck. Sure some albums like Handsome Boy Modelling School stick out and beg to be noticed while others like Deltron 3030 kind of got overlooked. With last years brilliant forray into pop territory with Damon Albarn and the rest of the Gorrilaz he started gaining the recognition that this amazing producer deserved. With Wanna Buy A Monkey Dan takes a step out of the production chair and starts playing some of his favorite hip hop and electronica of late. The album is just packed with quality material from Air to Zero 7 and every hip hop band inbetween like Dilated Peoples, his own Lovage, De La Soul, X-Ecutioners, and to many others to mention here. It is amazing that this is the first “mixed�compilation that he has released in his career but let’s hope it’s not his last. He sure has a knack for bringing out some killer tracks proving he’s not only a great producer but a great DJ too. Get this: he even has tracks from Tortoise and The Doves.
