I rather went off Bowie's albums in the mid to late seventies and resorted to buying singles instead of albums. I hated Bowie's thin white duke phase and was not overly impressed with outputs such as "Diamond Dogs". And yet he did put out some classic singles during that period. "Sorrow" begins with that mournful single violin, which continues right the way throughout the track, and has that distinctive looping acoustic guitar line running throughout, matched only by Bowie's distinctive looping vocal which is complementary in its depressiveness to the song as a whole and becomes increasingly desperate in tone as the track goes on. Together they have the potential to make a great single. What finally makes it though is the sax solo.
