Americans can be strange sometimes. Their courtrooms are like TV sets, bristling with cameras while the (still innocent) defendant sits there for all to see and hear is or her public shame. Yet when some Irish band makes a song about a school shooting it gets banned for fear of prejudicing a trial. Weird.
"I Don't Like Mondays" was the Rats' biggest hit in the UK. The title comes from the reason given by the juvenile perpetrator of a school shooting in the US at the time. Unlike most Rats' stuff, this was a slower ballad, in keeping with the sombre theme of the track. Memorable for more than the ban it received stateside, this is what the Rats sounded like when they ceased being a punk outfit and started taking themselves seriously. In other words, this is the Rats before their final demise.
