Afu-Ra - Body Of The Life Force
After being taught everything by his mentor and sometimes partner, Jeru the Damaja, Afu-Ra felt it was time to forge ahead on his own. For his debut solo album, Afu-Ra ("Afu" means body and "Ra" means life force, inspired by The Egyptian Book of the Dead) has looked towards Gang Starr member, DJ Premier for production duties. He takes his spiritual values a little too heavy but when you just listen to the rhymes you can appreciate Afu Ra's talent. It's kind of nice to hear a rap album without reference to cars, drugs, ho's, and gang intonations. The album starts out with "Soul Assassination" by none other than... DJ Muggs. A few other "features" to mention are "Bigact Littleacts" with the Wu-Tang's RZA, "D&D Soundclash" featuring Cocoa Brovas, and "Mortal Kombat" with Masta Killah. This album isn't required hip hop listening but it shows the start of a great career as long as Afu-Ra doesn't lose sight of his ultimate goal, providing an option.
