The remastered version I have on this twelve inch vinyl is simply superb. Big Country were probably one of the best exponents of the art of taking an album track and remastering and extending it to turn it into something truly wonderful. The track is one of the highlights of the album from which it was drawn. It captures the essence of the enthusiasm of men going off to war, and contains some cleverly arranged lyrics with each line representing a sort of before and after, of the feelings of the individual joining up. The track vividly conveys the way patriotism turned to despair in the First World War and was particularly pertinent, coming as it did, shortly after Thatcher had played Winston Churchill and used the blood of hundreds of young British and Argentine men to salvage her own political skin.
